    Designers are starting to become more mindful about the connotations associated with design motifs.
    After Gucci apologized last week for selling a black, high-necked jumper that can be pulled over the face and shoppers noted the similarities between a Prada trinket and blackface imagery, pop star-turned-footwear entrepreneur Katy Perry has pulled two items from her recent collection.
    The shoes in question, a mule called the Rue Face slip-on loafer and the Ora Face block-heel sandal, both feature stylized facial designs and came in black, gold and beige.

    Just weeks after Prada and Gucci came under fire for selling products that evoked racist blackface imagery, another brand is being accused of the same thing. Katy Perry Footwear, the shoe line designed by pop star Katy Perry, is being called out on social media for two its latest shoe styles.
    The brand's "Ora Face Block Heel Sandal" and the "Rue Face Slip On Loafers" both feature gold eyes, nose and red lips on the toe of the shoe to create a face-like depiction that some feel is strongly associated with blackface.
